Michael Davis sets new 36-hole school record at Ironwood Collegiate Classic

GREENSBORO, North Carolina - Competing in the third event of the fall season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's golf team was paced by senior Michael Davis.

Playing in wet and rainy conditions at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina, Davis fired a three-under 69 in the first round followed by a one-under score of 71 in the second round for a net total of 140. With the final round canceled due to inclement weather, Davis' total marked the lowest score in program history in a 36-hole collegiate event.

Freshman Max Osten was the next low man for the Hawks with scores of 75 and 72 for a total of 147. Kyle Smetiouk recorded back-to-back rounds of 76 for a total count of 152 while Bryan Janocha rounded out the UMES scoring with rounds of 79 and 75 for a total of 154.

Biagio Gagliardi won the individual title with a two-round total of 131 while host instituition East Carolina won the team competition with a combined score of 548.

UMES will conclude fall competition on October 20 at Old Dominion University OBX Intercollegiate in Powells Point, North Carolina.
