(Sharks Win Series 2-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
LIU opened the game with a three-run first inning. After starter Cade Williams threw a scoreless second inning, the Hawks tallied seven runs in the bottom of the second. First, Darius Brown powered a two-run homer over the right field fence to put the Hawks on the board. Jonathan Rodriguez then tied the game on an RBI fielder's choice before Ansel Carson skied a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks their first lead of the game, 4-3. Next, Diego Aponte doubled UMES' advantage with an RBI single to left field before Aponte and Julian Jimenez scored on a Long Island fielding error, making the score 7-3 at the end of the second.
Trailing 7-3, the Sharks rallied to score one run in the third, one run in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth inning, UMES took the lead again, 8-7, when Amari Hackett laced a go-ahead single to left field.
After a scoreless inning from reliever Elijah Benton in the sixth, the Maroon and Grey expanded their lead in the home half of the sixth. With the base loaded, Clausell crushed a grand slam over the left center field wall to put UMES ahead, 12-7.
Although LIU tallied a pair of runs in the seventh inning, the Hawks retaliated with an RBI single from Carson in the seventh followed by a two-run home run over the center field fence by Clausell.
Despite the Sharks driving in two runs in the final inning, Clausell, who homered twice in the game, closed out the 15-11 victory on the mound in the ninth inning, recording the final three outs, highlighted by a diving catch from Brown for the third out.
