DOVER, Del. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks fell to the Delaware State Hornets, 5-4, on Friday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the first at bat of the game, Julian Jimenez crushed a home run to give the Hawks the lead in the top of the first inning.Â
After the Hornets scored a tying run in the bottom of the first, Christian Azcona drove in Elijah Negron on an RBI single in the second frame and Ansel Carson homered to right field in the third to give UMES a 3-1 lead.
Trailing by two runs, Delaware State then rattled off four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Although relief pitcher Henry Clausell recorded five scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Joshua Caldwell added an RBI single in the seventh, the Maroon and Grey were not able to drive in the tying run en route to falling 5-4 to the Hornets in the series opener.

The Hawks recorded four runs on 10 hits and two errors while the Hornets amassed five runs on 10 hits and no errors
Carson and Jimenez each recorded their second home runs of the season
Jimenez (2-for-5), Caldwell (2-for-4), and Aponte (2-for-4) all recorded multi-hit games
Clausell recorded a career-high five scoreless innings
