WEST HAVEN, Conn.– The New Haven Chargers overcame a five-run deficit to defeat the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks 11-9 on Saturday afternoon at Vieira Field.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the first inning, Jonathan Gonzalez Perez recorded a two-run single and Jonathan Rodriguez followed with an RBI single. Joshua Caldwell then scored on a wild pitch to put UMES ahead, 4-0.
Julian Jimenez continued the Hawks' momentum in the second inning with a solo home run.
Trailing 5-0, New Haven caught fire, recording six runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-5 lead.Â
In the seventh inning, Diego Aponte laced an RBI double before Rodriguez hit his second RBI single of the game to close the gap to three runs.
Trailing 10-7, Henry Clausell lined a two-run singled up the middle to get the Hawks within a single run in the eighth frame.
Despite the comeback effort, the Chargers tallied an insurance run on bases-loaded walk before finishing off the game in the ninth to cement an 11-9 victory in the season finale

The Hawks tallied nine runs on 15 hits and one error while the Chargers scored 11 runs on 10 hits and no errors
Paced by Rodriguez's career-high four hit game, six Hawks recorded double digit hits.
