DRUMMOND AND MENDOZA QUALIFY FOR 800 METER FINALS

Lake Buena Vista, FL - An abbreviated day two took place at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In the preliminaries of the 800 meter run the Lady Hawk's continued their success with Evelynn Mendoza posting the second best time and a qualifying time of the day. Deborah Meadows also qualified taking sixth place.

In heptathlon events Lady Hawk Petagay O'Conner made a strong showing with a first place finish in the long jump. The next event in that competition was the javelin throw where senior Eboni Reavis took third place with a throw of 25.27 meters.

On the men's side Damion Drummond took first place in the 800 meter qualifying run with a blistering time of 1:50.89.

After one and a half days of competition the Lady Hawks stood in third place with 15 points, 24 points out of first while the Fighting Hawks were in sixth place with three points, 21 points out of first.

Results will be posted as soon as they are made available for the short day two of competition and at the conclusion of day three, the final day of Outdoor Track & Field.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference changes start times for the 2004 MEAC Baseball, Softball and Track and Field Championships, due to delays caused by lightning storms at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

SOFTBALL

The Delaware State/Florida A&M contest, which was halted in the fifth inning on Field E, will continue at 9:30 AM. Delaware State is ahead, 3-2. followed by the S.C. State/Norfolk State game. On Field F, Howard and Hampton will play at 9:30 AM.

BASEBALL

All games will be played as originally scheduled.

TRACK

All field events will begin at 9:00 AM, while the track events will begin at 10:00 AM.
