NEWARK, Delaware - The Maryland Eastern Shore outdoor track regular season on a high note Sunday (Apr. 29), as the men finished second and the women took fourth at the Delaware Open.
Four Hawks earned victories during the one day meet. Junior Judah Corriette (Roseau, Dominica) won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.34, and sophomore John Akakeya (Staten Island, New York) ran a time of 4:17.04 in the 1500 meter to claim victory. On the women's team, freshman Christina Cropper (Wilmington, Delaware) won the 200 meter dash, running the event in 25.99 seconds.
In the field, sophomore Tamunoibi Dabipi (Salisbury, Maryland) won the hammer throw with a mark of 40.86 meters. The mark also serves as a personal record.
Dabipi's personal record was matched by freshman Kyle Nottage (Waldorf, Maryland), who earned a PR in the discus throw with a runner up distance of 41.29 meters. Fellow freshman Symone White (Mechanicsville, Virginia) added her own PR with her 10.00 meter performance in the triple jump.
The men's team tied Widener for second place with 73 points while the women earned 24 points for their efforts.
Maryland Eastern Shore will move on to the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina to kick off the postseason.
