Fontaine was a 1984 inductee of the UMES Athletic Hall of Fame. Fontiane had an excellent basketball journey, earning himself a spot in the NBA.

After a strong career at UMES, the 6'4 shooting guard was drafted by the San Francisco 70th overall in the 1970 NBA Draft. Fontaine made his debut for the Warriors in 1970. The 1970 Warriors went onto compete in the NBA Playoffs in March of 1971.

Fontaine finished his NBA career with 35 games played, 4 points per game, and a 75% free throw percentage.
