Cockfield put together a fabulous basketball career at UMES.

The Scranton, S.C., native was known for her ability to shoot and make shots in the clutch. Her career was highlighted by being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1992. Cockfield is one of nine women's basketball players in Hawk history to tally over 1,000 points in her time with the Hawks. She also finished with 282 career assists, including a school-record 160 in 1990-91. She was also named to the 1991 MEAC All-Tournament team.

The 2010 UMES Athletic Hall of Fame inductee was a member of some of the best women's basketball teams to frequent the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. As a junior, she was on a Hawks squad that placed third in the conference with a record of 16-13, 9-5 (MEAC). That year, the Hawks finished ninth in the nation in steals-per-game with an average of 4.0 over 29 games and 117 thefts. The push continued into her senior year with a 17- 10 record and 11-3 in the MEAC. She led the Hawks to an appearance in the MEAC semifinals both years.
